Apple Search Ads Connector Checklist: What to Sync for Revenue Attribution
Use this checklist to evaluate the complete connection. It focuses on the information needed for keyword cost, trials, purchases, renewals, refunds, customer acquisition cost, and return on ad spend.

An Apple Search Ads connector is useful only when it connects cost, attribution, and subscription outcomes at compatible levels. Importing campaign spend without install context leaves revenue unattributed. Collecting attribution without RevenueCat value leaves the team optimizing installs instead of customers.
Use this checklist to evaluate the complete connection. It focuses on the information needed for keyword cost, trials, purchases, renewals, refunds, customer acquisition cost, and return on ad spend.
Confirm the Apple account connection
The reporting connection needs access to the Apple Ads organization and the campaign groups in scope. RevenueCat documents that Read Only access is sufficient for its Advanced integration, while Limited Access must include every campaign group you expect to analyze.
Record the organization and account selected during setup. A successful authorization with the wrong campaign group scope can produce partial data that looks like a tracking problem.
- Correct Apple Ads organization.
- Expected campaign groups are included.
- Read access remains active.
- Currency and account timezone are known.
Collect install attribution in the app
Spend data does not identify which customer came from a campaign. The app must collect the Apple AdServices attribution token and send it through the supported integration. RevenueCat then requests attribution data from Apple and stores the returned campaign context.
Standard attribution can be available without App Tracking Transparency permission. Detailed attribution requires the conditions Apple specifies. Do not describe either path as perfect or use a missing field as permission to guess.
- Request the token on a supported iOS version.
- Send it within the documented time window.
- Keep token failures separate from attribution false responses.
- Respect privacy and consent requirements for detailed data.
Map compatible dimensions
The connector should preserve stable Apple identifiers for organization, campaign, ad group, keyword, and available creative context. RevenueCat can store campaign, ad group, keyword, claim type, conversion type, and other fields when Apple returns them.
Names can change. Stable identifiers keep historical joins intact. Use names for display and identifiers for matching. Keep an Unspecified group when Apple attributes an install but omits a lower level field.
- Campaign identifier and name.
- Ad group identifier and name.
- Keyword identifier and text when available.
- Country or region.
- Claim and conversion type.
- Spend for the matching date and currency.
Join RevenueCat outcomes
RevenueCat provides trial, purchase, renewal, cancellation, and refund outcomes. The connector should associate those outcomes with the customer attribution context Apple supplied. It must not pretend that RevenueCat independently chose the winning campaign.
Use the original acquisition context for later renewal value. A subscription renewal may occur months after the ad click and without another app open. That later value belongs in cohort and return analysis, not in a new install count.
- Trial starts and trial conversions.
- Initial purchase revenue.
- Renewal revenue.
- Refunds and cancellations.
- Customer value by campaign and keyword.
Calculate spend and return consistently
Choose one reporting currency and convert spend and revenue consistently. Define customer acquisition cost using paying customers when that is the business question. Install cost is useful, but it is not the same denominator.
Return on ad spend should use the revenue state stated in the report. Label whether the value is gross, refunded, or net. Also label the cohort window so a new campaign is not compared with a mature cohort that has accumulated months of renewals.
- Spend divided by installs for install CPA.
- Spend divided by paying customers for sales based CAC.
- Net attributed revenue divided by spend for net ROAS.
- Renewal value grouped by acquisition cohort.
A connector is a chain: Account access, spend, AdServices attribution, RevenueCat outcomes, and consistent reporting must all work. A green authorization badge proves only one link.
Verify before relying on the dashboard
Use one test or controlled campaign path. Confirm that Apple spend appears for the expected account, the app sends attribution data, RevenueCat stores the available fields, and a purchase resolves to the same campaign context. Allow for the documented processing delay.
Grometrics Apple Search Ads attribution combines Apple Search Ads spend with RevenueCat revenue for keyword CAC and return analysis. It does not promise unrelated warehouse, spreadsheet, or business intelligence exports. Record the observed coverage beside every performance result so missing detail cannot masquerade as poor campaign performance.
